When you don’t have enough time for all your crafty hobbies…

add another!

No, that doesn’t sound quite right. How about: Brain research shows learning new skills is good for you!

Here’s my new toy, a Kundert drop spindle, with my first attempt at spinning (click picture to biggify; teach me photography to better focus-ify).

I need to let the new yarn “marinate” on the spindle overnight so it’ll keep its twist, so I haven’t yet been able to fully evaluate it. I’m quite pleased that it looks rather yarn-esque, though!

Cool! To focus-ify at short distances, put the camera on “macro.” You can hold the camera quite close then. On my camera, macro is at the bottom of the function/set button and it has a little flower on it. If your project has beads and sparkles, turn off the flash.

Brain research shows inventing new words is good, too.

Inventing new words is definitely good.

Spinning is good too, and a friend of mine is really into it (she’s on Ravelry, I’ll let you know who she is so you can look at some of her work). I confess that I’ve never quite seen the point, when there’s so much totally beautiful yarn already out there. Unless you’re going to do some kind of full-blown sheep-to-shawl thing, which is cool.
