Questions for our Web Guru

Hi, Cathy!
So, I’m very proud of myself for editing my post on Associate Crackpots, but then I remembered that I used Mary’s last name in a comment I made on “How to post a comment.” How do I edit that? And it was easy to edit my post on Associate Crackpots because there was a button right at the bottom of the post that said ‘Edit.” So I did. But none of the other posts seem to have Edit buttons. Is that because I can only edit posts that I wrote, so that button only appears on my posts on my screen?
And how do we get rid of old stuff when it starts to clutter up the blog? You all know how I hate clutter!! I don’t want to delete any really important stuff, but I doubt that we need to keep posts or comments that are basically, “Wow! Look at me! I just figured out how to log on!!”
One more question. It seems that I never logged off several days ago when I left the site because I was still logged on when I tuned in today. Is that a problem?

Hi, it’s the resident Web Guru checking in here. Sorry I haven’t noticed this until now! Let’s see, to answer your questions, but not necessarily in the order that you asked them…

    1. Yes, you can only edit your own entries. I, however, can edit anyone’s entries, because I am All-Powerful 🙂

    2. Older entries will fall off the edge of the earth…I mean, will fall off the end of the blog’s front page after a certain number of entries have been posted. I’m not sure exactly how it’s set up, but I think it’s something like the most recent 10 or 12 entries show up on the front page. Anything older than that goes into the Archive, which you can get to by using the monthly links on the right-hand sidebar. In fact, if you scroll down to the bottom of the front page, you’ll see that the first two or three entries (on logging in, commenting, etc.) have already fallen off. Don’t worry, though, they’re still in the Archives. So don’t fret about clutter! It will magically clear itself up. (Would that our homes operated on the same principle…)

    3. Yes, unless you specifically log out of the blog, you will remain logged in through the magic of browser cookies. This isn’t a problem as long as you’re using your own computer and nobody else is likely to use your computer to hijack the blog. (Let’s not mention this possibility to Melvin, shall we?)

    4. You ought to be able to edit your own comments, but I’ll need to test a few things out first to be sure of how you do it. If all else fails, I can edit comments, because I am All-Powerful (see above).

Hi, Cathy again here. Hmm, this is most mysterious. As I suspected, I can edit anyone’s comments, but I can’t find a way for a Non-All-Powerful user such as y’all to edit your own comments. I will put in a query to my Chief WordPress Guru and see if he has any insights. It’s probably something completely obvious that I’m missing, or an option that I just need to enable. Thanks for pointing it out! Now I’ll go on to try to answer your question about uploading a photo.

I edited one of my comments–the Duh! one. I think I just used the edit button, did the editing, and pushed the button submit or write or post button. And Voila! There it was–my corrected copy.

Further question – is it possible to get e-mail notification when someone has posted something to the blog? Or do I have to e-mail everyone and tell them to read my post?
